Tenets of Taekwondo
The 5 Tenets of Taekwondo
Taekwondo has 5 tenets or principles:Etiquette (Yi Ui) - To promote the spirit of taekwondo. To be polite and respect one another and one's surroundings. To distinguish instructor from student and senior from junior.
Modesty (Yom Chi) - in Taekwondo, modesty means being able to define right from wrong. To have a conscience and be humble.
Perseverance (In Nae) - An old Oriental saying states "Patience leads to virtue or merit". Taekwondo promotes perseverance. To continue and not give up.
Self Control (Guk Gi) - A loss of self-control can prove disastrous (not to mention dangerous). The inability to work within one's capability is also lack of self-control.
Indomitable Spirit (Baekjul Boolgool) - A Taekwondo student will at all times be modest and honest. If confronted with injustice, they will deal with the situation without any fear or hesitation, with indomitable spirit, regardless of whosoever and however many the number may be.
